With artist
Veronica Graham is a printmaker, new media artist, and educator, and the founder of Most Ancient, a design studio focused on experimental comics and exploration games. She has taught classes on digital tools for printmakers at San Francisco Art Institute and lectured on world building at Stanford University. She enjoys teaching all ages!
Rosie Lee Tompkins mapped her place in the world through the letters, numbers, shapes, objects, and other details in her quilts, often making reference to her family members and personal beliefs. Join artist Veronica Graham for a step-by-step drawing-based exploration of the personal and public spaces you move through, while taking a close look at the details of Tompkins’s quilts for inspiration. Experiment with symbols, patterns, and text as you intuitively build worlds-within-worlds.
Materials
The focus of this workshop is on drawing. All that is required is a large surface to draw on and a mark-making tool. If you would like more direction, these are suggested materials to gather before our session:
• One large sheet of paper (at least 9 x 12”; 11 x 17” or 18 x 24” is also great!)
• Sharp pencil
• Eraser
• Drawing tools for coloring, such as colored pencils, markers, or crayons
