Family Fare: Fabric Collage
Ages 6 to 12 with accompanying adult(s)
-
With artist Jennie Lennick
Jennie Lennick reinterprets traditionally domestic imagery in drawings, sculpture, fiber, and functional items and teaches fiber art classes throughout the Bay Area. She holds an MFA from San Francisco Art Institute and has exhibited at Aggregate Space, Alter Space, Kadist Art Foundation, BAMPFA, and Root Division, among others.
Following a tour of fabric artworks on view in Hippie Modernism, create collages with artist Jennie Lennick using upcycled fabrics from second-hand clothing, felt, and yarn. Try out simple embroidery stitches like the line stitch and the star stitch to add detail to your cut-and-glued fabric collage. Feel free to bring some fabric of your own to make an even-more-personal fabric artwork!
Sign up onsite beginning fifteen minutes before the session you wish to attend. Be advised that space is limited to 12 kids per session; please arrive promptly to sign up.
About Family Fare:
On the second Saturday of each month, Family Fare connects art viewing with art making in ways that engage both young people and their grown-ups. In each session, families participate in guided viewing and discussion in the galleries with a UC Berkeley graduate-student guide. Then, they explore related ideas in the Art Lab with an experienced teaching artist. Each session focuses on a different group of artworks and related hands-on activities.
