BAMPFA Reaccredited by the American Alliance of Museums

Following a rigorous yearlong process, we’re thrilled to share that BAMPFA has been reaccredited by the American Alliance of Museums, the highest national recognition afforded to museums in the United States. The renewal of our accreditation status, which must be reapplied for every ten years, places BAMPFA in the select company of fewer than five percent of museums nationwide.

What does reaccreditation mean? It means that AAM’s Accreditation Commission, an independent body of museum experts from around the country, has thoroughly reviewed nearly everything we do at BAMPFA—from public programming to collection care, from financial stewardship to information technology—and determined that we meet the highest standard of excellence across the board. This process includes a year of self-evaluation by the participating museum, followed by onsite visits by multiple committee members and a comprehensive audit of the museum’s operating practices. No stone was left unturned to ensure that BAMPFA is living up to our highest aspirations of professionalism and public service.

It's heartening to receive such prestigious recognition by our museum peers, but what matters most to BAMPFA is all of you, our treasured community of friends and supporters. Our AAM accreditation means that you can count on BAMPFA to provide an outstanding visitor experience every time you walk through our doors, and to trust that everything behind the scenes—every artwork in our collection, every film in our archive, and every dollar in our operating budget—is being managed with the utmost ethical rigor and care. That includes our internationally celebrated collection of African American quilts, the largest collection of its kind in the world, which you’ll have the opportunity to view this summer in Routed West: Twentieth-Century African American Quilts in California.

On behalf of everyone at BAMPFA, thanks for all you do to make this museum thrive.
