Reading: Anne Walsh
Video and performance artist Anne Walsh introduces her new book Hello Leonora, Soy Anne Walsh, a visual and textual response to Surrealist painter Leonora Carrington’s novel The Hearing Trumpet. Having discovered in Carrington’s book a “thrilling, subversive example of old age,” Walsh chronicles her encounters with the nonagenarian artist and author through video, writing, and performance, ultimately assuming Carrington’s identity. Hello Leonora also includes texts by writer Dodie Bellamy, art historian Julia Bryan-Wilson, and poet and critic Claudia La Rocco.
Walsh, a professor in UC Berkeley’s Department of Art Practice, will be joined in conversation by Apsara DiQuinzio, BAMPFA senior curator of modern and contemporary art and Phyllis C. Wattis MATRIX Curator.
