Workshop led by
Tania Osorio Harp is an architect and PhD student at UC Berkeley. Originally from Mexico, she has been based in the Bay Area for the past seven years, studying and teaching design and the history of architecture to young adults and teens. Harp has previously collaborated with BAMPFA, leading interactive gallery tours with children.
This two-part workshop integrates an interactive gallery tour with a related art project; each session lasts about an hour and a half. Sign up in the Art Lab 10 minutes ahead of the session, which begins with a short gallery tour that starts at 11:30 AM.
Robert Irwin’s Untitled—composed of light, shadows, and an acrylic disc—blurs the boundaries of objects in space. What we see is determined by our perception of these elements and the atmosphere around them, creating an illusion of constant change. With this in mind, make a light sculpture or mobile from colored acetate sheets and soft wire or string. Use cutting, folding, and overlapping of the translucent sheets to create varying densities, colors, and shadows—elements that will change according to your sculpture’s lighting, position in space, or the wind (if it’s a mobile).
