Five Tables of Blackness and Belonging
This viewing session extends the conversation on blackness and belonging, as articulated in the exhibition About Things Loved, into the study center. These works explore the multiplicity of black art and its dialogue with dispossession, institutional collecting practices, black radical thought, and everyday life. On view this session: one of Laylah Ali’s conceptual prints; Shinique Smith’s abstract Salt & Pepper screenprint; Sanford Biggers’s work gesturing to migration; Sasha Kelley’s intimate portrayal of the exhaustion accompanying the everyday commute; Fred Wilson’s sharp critique of the museum as seen in X; and more!
