In 1988 New York-based display artist and optician Robert Warner initiated a correspondence with the renowned collagist, mail artist, and formative Pop artist Ray Johnson (1927-95), which would change the course of Warner’s life. In this interview shot at BAM/PFA, Warner talks about how his association with Johnson began, getting John Cage to sign a copy of the Declaration of Independence, and how he came into possession of the thirteen “Bob Boxes” featured in Tables of Content: Ray Johnson and Robert Warner Bob Box Archive / MATRIX 241 (on view through May 20).
