Curator's Talk: Larry Rinder on The Enduring Mark
Lawrence Rinder, BAMPFA director emeritus and former chief curator, introduces The Enduring Mark with a comprehensive overview, paying special attention to the fifteen extraordinary works gifted to the museum from the Gray Collection. Among the artists included in this donation are Francesco Guardi, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, Eugène Delacroix, Théodore Géricault, Juan Gris, Paul Klee, and Joan Miró. Also included are a group of exquisite seventeenth-century Italian red chalk drawings. Rinder, who organized the exhibition’s BAMPFA presentation, will discuss differences and cross-influences among both the various geographical locations—including several Italian cities, Holland and Flanders, France, England, Spain, Switzerland, Russia, and America—as well as the distinctive time periods represented by the drawings.
